Humility and modesty are ideals within Judaism, and can be demonstrated during prayer and worship by wearing head coverings. Men typically wear a kippah, while women can choose to wear a mitpachat (scarf). We have kippahs and scarves available in our lobby for visitors to use if they choose to do so.
Men may also choose to wear a tallit (fringed prayer shawl) during services. The biblical reference for wearing of “fringes” can be found in B’midbar (Numbers) 15:37-41, as a reminder to obey Adonai and not be lead astray by your own impulses. We have tallit available in our lobby for visitors to use if they so desire.
